Murphys, CA

The drive to downtown Murphys was a short one. Our friends are excellent hosts/planners/tour guides.

We made our first stop at Marisolio Tasting Bar, to try more of their balsamic vinegar and olive oils. This is where they purchased the delicious ones we had the night before. Oil tasting before wine tasting is supposedly ideal, we just learned. We picked up the Peach White Balsalmic and my friends got the Lemon Olive Oil to pair with the two vinegars they already had at home.

Next we went to our first wine tasting room Stevenot. We sat at the “members only” tables, and our tasting was free because our friends are members and we were their guests. Love the perks. I had been there before, but this time was special. It was my husband’s first time wine tasting – in America! (We’ve gone in Mexico.)

Next, we went to the little bakery next door called Aria, and my girl picked up some sourdough, French rolls, and some amazing focaccia. I’m a big fan of focaccia, but theirs was a little saltier, so good, and they were little cute loaves.

We had planned to go to the Tanner Vineyards tasting room, but we also wanted to take the kids to the lake for a bit on our way to dinner, so we had to skip it for next time.

We took a little detour to the Murphys Community Park where there was a massive playground for my daughter and a creek that was shallow enough to stand in and splash around. The kids were behaving, but definitely bored while waiting around for us.

Our next stop was perfect because my husband has become very interested in pairing wine with cheese. He’s really into the experience and sharing it with others. So, now, probably my favorite of all the places to go wine tasting in Murphy’s, Lavender Ridge. Rocio, the girl who served us (I don’t know if she has a proper title, wine pourer?), was super cool and made the experience even better. Everything was super good. There was this one thing I’d never tried before… black walnuts? Or blackened walnuts? I don’t know, it was good!

While we were at Lavender Ridge, the kids headed back to the creek and came back just in time. The kids were promised ice cream, so my girl and I headed across the street to Joma’s Artisan Ice Cream while my husband and son headed over to Sierra Nevada Adventure Co. a.k.a. SNAC then met back up to leave.

Heading back to the car, we made one final stop at the Hovey Wine tasting room to say hello to someone we know. Also did some tasting there. I think I was cut off by the second or third glass, but I was still eating my two scoops in a waffle cone anyway and was busy trying to get photos of the kids playing corn hole on the front lawn. My husband tried something and had to get it for his cowo, so he grabbed a bottle from there… not even for us! (Pretend complaint, we had a lot of wine back at our friends’s house.)

Will have to add the photos later, while I’m waiting for my husband’s car at the shop… Smog inspection for registration renewal – exciting, right?

Thanks for stopping by!
